The Path Of Christmas Story

The Path Of Christmas Story by philipp schaake from germany

designer's own words:

The goal of the design was to create an interactive „glowing forest“ which is a walkable sculpture where people can explore „hidden secrets“ in a playful way. It was very important not to offer a static object but rather a dynamic installation where people can touch and experience in a sensual way. The abstracted snowcapped christmas trees have on their inner sides respectively two touch surfaces with obscure information fields. After touching a red field people will get interesting information about christmas on the screen. And they could win also a little surprise: Every thousandth user could get a code on the screen for a little present of one of the shops or exhibitors. The mental model of touching on the red screen is adapted from „unpacking a christmas gift.
If one of the screens is in use, the outer LED color of the respective tree is changing from white to red. Everybody around the installation can see the funny interaction by the changing colors. On the „path“ on the ground the christmas story is printed in different languages and has not only decorative function: People can also learn a bit about the original story of christmas.

The installation consists of a lightweighted metal frame, printed acrylic glass and sheet metal.Technical components are LEDs, flatscreens and a sound system. Additionally the trees are anchored from the top with thin transparent cables.
