paramiyo pendant light by meike heller from germany
designer's own words:
The light paramiyo was developed in a time when environmental issues and the finanzial crises are at the center of attention. The progressing global warming demands environmentally friendly thinking and behavior, and also in times of financial insecurity eco-friendly and cost-saving product solutions are required.
The pendant light is made of an old discharged emergancy parachute with a diameter of two meters. The beige cotton fabric has blue seams and has been ironed and ruffled. With that, the parachute became smaller and gained volume, which made it look more noble. Then parts of the fabric have been shifted against each other and the object became more three-dimensional an got a sculptural character.
The preprocessed parachute was now altered to a lamp shade and hung on its own laces. As a lightsource for the pendant light a roundshaped fluorescent tube was used. This secial kind of fluorescent lamp fits to the object because of its shape and it guaratees an equal illumination in all directions.
When the light is switched on, the beige changes to a more yellow color and provides thereby an interesting play of light and textile structure. Although paramiyo has discreed colours, it has an impressive presence.
The pendant light paramiyo can be used in the dining and living area, as the lamp has enouht power to enlighten a big table for serveral people.
