outline door handle by filipe oliveira dias from portugal
designer's own words:
the use of organic architecture is more than ever increasing, complemented by the orthogonal register with frequently new curvilinear lines. the concern for creating a handle with a tendency to follow the evolution of architectural spaces that embraces them, splashed out from the outset in the early drafts of the “outline” door handle.
the notion of functionality inherent in this kind of object was always present during the entire process of product concept development. several rehearsals were performed in this field in order to thoroughly test the rotation, twirling, gyration, rolling and other ongoing and repeated mechanical efforts and pressures to which the product will be submitted.
the door handle is composed of several pieces – spindle bar, sprung roses, hex headed bolt through fixings – based intentionally in manufacturing and standardized features/dimensions/materials (stainless steel), aiming at reducing production costs by resorting to accessories whose molds and other manufacturing systems have already been muffled and whose assembly remains systematized and simplified.
all the technical restrictions inherent to the product haven’t limited the development of product based on the concept that was outlined from the beginning: transmitting a feeling of lightness, transportation, and gliding. his form calls to his gentle and soft grip, adapting naturally to the ergonomics of the human hand.
