origami door handle by norman herwig from germany
designer's own words:
the starting point is a ashlar with dimensions of 13 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm. this corresponds to a volume which includes many door handles. the distance to the door is about 4.5 cm.
analysing the hand position shows out important areas. The bent finger must be able to enclose the handle well. the palm is on top (area1), and the finger tips pressing the handle from below (area2). the thumb preses toward the pivot point, which gives a good grip (area3). the ashlar is transformed so that it adapts to these specifications.
we do the same thing with the connecting element. it is reduced to it's necessary function and adapted to the form.
the materiality is thinkable in chrome, stainless steel or brass, even in plastics.
all would appear different. chrome elegant, stainless steel technic and brass warm and modern. plastic ones could be colorful.
