ORI NIGIRI by tomoo nitta from japan
designer's own words:
I started thinking about how I can make a trigger in which an individual artist or a designer does not design, but a community designs.
I will host workshops in which various people, from children to adults, gather and interchange. The rule is that the design must be made from one sheet, so each participant learns folding methods through trial and error and designs their own shape.
For this we will use a strong and flexible polypropylene sheet, which can be bent many times, rewarmed in a microwave oven, and used again.
This sheet also becomes a package design for selling single serving rice products.
‘Origami’ is a type of play that is handed down from one generation to another.
‘Onigiri’ is a food that delivers the warmth of people molding a handful of rice.
By embracing the concept of ‘Origami’ squeezing ‘Onigiri’, ‘Orinigiri’ conveys people’s playful sense and warmth to the future.
