designer's own words:

As a child, we always asked our parents "When do we go to the park?", or "When do I switch on the TV?", and we were always told, "In a while." We looked at the boring clock on our wall. But waiting for something so exciting should be more fun, right?

Introducing, "Oracle"

Oracle is a kinematic installation that can be hoisted on walls. One can set time on an app, and watch as the abstract petals, inspired from tessellations, nature and geometry; bloom as the time passes by. When the time is up, the entire structure has bloomed!

Inspired by sacred geometry, and it's aesthetic effects on our minds, we have dimensioned the modules, and structured the product pertaining to numbers of the Fibonacci series.

In the spirit of Internet of things, the Oracle app is connected via WiFi to the product. One can set time on their cellphone, and control the timer for the product. The blooming of each tetrahedral flower module is controlled by separate threads. These threads are connected to motors, that will wind and unwind them - thus resulting in the flowers blooming.

Each simple triangular part of every module can be simply laser-cut / water-jet-cut out of a polymer sheet of thickness of about 3mm. The threads used can also be thin transparent polymer threads. The modules are hoisted on a circular polymer base. At the back of this base, there is a compartment to house the electronics: Motors, threads, PCB et al.

Oracle – Now waiting is fun!
