designer's own words:
ON THE HANDLE,which creats an unique cross-section and 1.3mm width of slit,is bended of a strainless steel sheet,and they can be used to place notes,pocket money,variety of cards and other small things.Since the door handle is the bridge of the two spaces,such as the message on it is obvious to see.
