O.I. (organism interaction) by sarah kim from korea
designer's own words:
We anticipate reactions from the objects, seeing the figures of them. Ordinary things know how to communicate with people through their own languages. ‘OI’ (Organism interaction) are daily tools showing a wide range of ‘anticipation’ spectrum. Such tools we often see display various reactions such as what contradicts anticipation, what is impossible to anticipate, or what is similar to anticipation. Such new reactions allow us to perceive those objects as living beings, and our interaction with them would be called ‘organism interaction’.
When we see a bell, we anticipate that it makes sound, watching its form. Acting person, while acting, anticipates sound. But, when the movement an action makes is expressed not as sound, but as light wave, we have an unanticipated experience.
Blind is a tool to regulate light. Based on experiences, we anticipate that a blind will regulate light uniformly. However, a blind which moves irregularly, and makes various forms makes such an anticipation of us meaningless.
Common table lamp decorated with fur leads us to anticipate warmth. As we touch the lamp again and again, it gets increasingly brighter. Warmth, touch, and brightening light interact with one another, by being linked together with similar senses.
Through the process, we perceive a thing as live being, and experience various organism interactions with things.
