nomikuchi by Atsuro Ueki from japan

designer's own words:

Signs of anticipation exist in our everyday behavior. Even when we drink something, watch the color of surface on the liquid, swing a cup to check smell and lick a little bit to confirm the taste. Those behaviors are related to our anticipation. Usually we confirm expected flavor and be relieved. But, sometimes, we get a slight different feedback from we expected. It's serendipity for a new flavor.

As it's empirically and medically known, the flavor of drink slightly changes by the thickness of a cup without any difference of its ingredient. We usually choose the forms / materials of the cup based on the types of liquid. This is our knowledge to get the best expected result, in a fail-safe way. However, what will happen if we can try different textures by one cup?

"Nomikuchi" is a Japanese expression for the lip of a cup. It is designed as a tool for exploring a margin between anticipation and result while drinking. By the ceramic 3D printing technique, it has different thicknesses / textures in one body. There are four types of nomikuchi(taps) to extend the experience of drinking.
