no more handles by ksenia shigaeva from russia
designer's own words:
The project is aimed at exploration of new ways of handling a hot cup. Departing from traditional “ear” handle, I came up with alternative handling concepts such as creating a delicate extra wall around the cup or giving volume to the decorations, thus allowing the decorations themselves to function as holding points. A different approach was based purely on the physical principals of heat conductivity: a set of cups was made through introducing a fine layer of air in between the walls, or making walls super thick or very porous. Using the same mould for the base of the cups I experimented with various additions and played with the very process of slip-casting. This resulted in a collection of intricate cups each of which has its own character and provides quite a special experience of drinking.
