new moleskinerie logo by sonia lamera from portugal
designer's own words:
a logo can be just made of lettering or it can be accompanied by a symbol. To create the logo I chose to dispense the symbol, once one source can "speak" for itself, and I have created the characters which form the moleskinerie word from their roots so they could represent a way better the brand.
before I have started the logo designing process, I searched about the brand moleskine and I found out that the main characteristics which describe the famous brand notebooks were their rounded corners and their black color.
to represent them I designed a font where I rounded the extreme line intersections. the font is also non-serif and its thickness does not change along the line, in other words, it has no axis which makes the font more clean, clear and organized, important factors to attract the consumers' eyes and to transmit the notebooks essence: simplicity, functionality and distinction.
the width of each character composition is smaller than their height so it can make them vertical.
to conclude, I think "moleskines" are something unique and it is part of many people's life, so with this logo I meant to make the difference and make them distinct once their actual moleskine logo uses a font which already exists (Copperplate).
my color choice was black because I think it makes all the sense once it is one of the main characteristics of the brand - the original notebook cover is black. when the logo is used on dark backgrounds it should be white.
