narcissus by lucas chirnside from australia
designer's own words:
A degree of ambiguity in design provokes interpretation through performance. Design does not end with production, it becomes a life embedded in the work.
The Narcissus project focuses on relationships of object, space and body. It is a droplet of mirror, reflecting the gaze in a distorted perspective, allowing the audience to indulge in a fantasy of their own world.
"As he tried to quench his thirst ... he saw an image in the pool, and fell in love with that unbodied hope, and found a substance in what was only shadow."
But the dome is easily compressed by the weight of a sitting person, changing the spatial illusion by fragmenting it into many reflections like ripples.
"What shall I do?... What I want is with me, my riches make me poor. If I could only escape from my own body!"
Narcissus is a project for the turbulent years.
