More Than Nothing by Will de Brett from uk
designer's own words:
More than Nothing was born out of a frustration, where a group simply cannot think of an idea for a product or service. It’s a last resort, for when a design team has worked hard on a problem and has become blocked. They agree to cast the blocks, and by doing so they won’t be able to predict what the outcome will be, but they will anticipate a fresh approach and perspective on the problem. The blocks speak in an unfamiliar symbolic language, which needs interpreting by the group, and has the effect of shaking them out of their habitual way of thinking. Once the blocks have been cast, they show an arrangement of design attributes, such as shape, colour, form, emotional content and meaning. If the design group accepts their chance arrangement, they might discover surprising insights and connections - and if they spend time looking at those associations and connections, it has the potential to help them move forward on their task.
A series of random words on blocks that can create random sentences when thrown.
The blocks could have words, symbols or colour palettes on them, creating a unique visual profile.
With tens of thousands of possible combinations, each roll is guaranteed to be unique.
The blocks may make a sentence or just random words, both of which may help kickstart an idea.
