mondo colori by gianita kadarisman from canada
designer's own words:
the idea for "mondo colori" was, again, a result of my recent traffic accident that rendered my right hand invalid, albeit temporarily (a fracture was all the damage i suffered. i am very lucky.)
finding a door handle that can give my metal covered hand good traction, however, is a problem. i had a hard time operating the smooth, sleek door handles as they resist my metal touch immediately.
inspired by the company "mondo" who produces colorful rubber flooring for various athletic purposes (the olympic games being one of them), i thought why not integrate this type of material into a slippery-proof door handles?
not only the rubber flooring is flexible and comes in a rainbow of colors that will make you crave for gelato, it is slippery resistant, pore-less, flexible, and easy to clean. the color keeps for a long time, which does not hurt either.
the idea is to give the hand: healthy, incapacitated, or otherwise, enough traction to safely and comfortably operate the door handle.
and did i mention the colors? the possibilities are endless. these door handles put the "fun" in functional.
the combination of a brushed steel finish with the colorful rubber gives a look that is fresh and timeless. summer is almost here!
