moleskinerie: branding the online blog of an iconic notebook by Scott Roberts Roberts from uk
designer's own words:
how do you take a product which has built its brand heritage in the offline world, online? the existing logo for moleskine is as iconic as the notebooks themselves; beautifully typeset copperplate lettering, heavy black in colour – all suggestive of a company bursting with legacy and prestige. the new logo for moleskinerie respects this, while contemporising the brand for its new context.
the graphic device shows a laptop sealed with the moleskine elastic strap – a playful nod to a much loved and instantly recognisable component of moleskine’s signature notebooks. typographically, the new brand maintains the copperplate lettering of its parent. the colour palette is muted – black and dark grey – lending it a strength and sophistication consistent with the moleskine logo.
the logo is strong and authoritative, but isn’t afraid to be a little playful at the same time. more than anything, it shows that the moleskine brand has its head in the new world, but its heart in the old.
