#Mask - Sensing the Internet

#Mask - Sensing the Internet by RafaelElbaz from uk

designer's own words:

Currently, we live in a society that has developed an increasing dependence on the internet as an outlet for self expression. Over time, unlike any other period in history, this has created a resource where we can see the human condition in a documented form. This is an overtly visual experience, focusing on written text. This project harnesses human sense to create a more emotive and sensual response to what can sometimes be an overwhelming online environment.
The #Mask envelops the head to isolate the individual from the surrounding world, covering the eyes to intensify sound. Headphones covering the ears convert online text into binaural sound (3-D stereo sound sensation). The sound could either be a live stream from Twitter or focus on curated tweets, creating a door into the mind of others. The #Mask will be simply manufactured from three components. A large head covering made using vacuum formed acrylic will house a set of over ear headphones and a blackout eye mask. The headset can be easily altered for any head size. By modifying the way in which we perceive the world, the #Mask is designed to create a more empathetic understanding of human feelings.
