make jakuchu by Benet Dalmau from spain
designer's own words:
By understanding the works of Itō Jakuchu as static portions of nature, we want to interfere with these artistic expressions, especially their codes and put them in a position where they can express Jakuchu's nature in the streets and urban spaces all over the city.
We propose random citizen actions, inspired by the possibility of spontaneous participation offered to the public. In this way a new form of interaction between artist and audience is created, with new perceptive possibilities, which give a dynamic character to the artist's work.
In order to acomplish this temporary work, paper rolls are trimmed to characteristic Jakuchu's shapes (Kirigami) and are distributed on urban spaces; by cutting pieces of the rolls to the desired extent, these can serve as a template to paint patterns on the walls and floors... The negatives can be used such as tents in waterway channels and fountains... The templates can be re-used as carpets, or to do origami, or kites, or whatever the imagination of the viewer, who at the moment becomes an artist himself, wants.
