love at first sight by jorge trindade from portugal
designer's own words:
“Love at first sight” represents an alternative to the conventional way of storing electrical appliances in the kitchen. The saying, “out of sight, out of mind”, was the starting point for this idea and the fact that we put away all these tools not allowing us to develop a relationship of empathy and complicity with the appliances. In most cases these appliances only come out of the kitchen cabinet to be used and then to disappear again.
“Love at first sight” represents a new approach in the issue of storing appliances, by exposing them on the kitchen wall. In this way they become a significant part of the space enabling the user to develop an emotional relationship with these objects. This project defends the idea that instead of hiding objects which we appreciate, we should rather expose them as elements that we can relate and identify. These appliances combine the pleasure of being in the kitchen, preparing a meal while at the same time communicating to others a chosen lifestyle.
