Lom

Lom by hrvoje boljar from croatia

designer's own words:

this project represents a different view on a door handle symbolism, through an unconventional construction.

the process of opening a door can be symbolical in many ways:
* it breaks the smooth surface of the wall, bringing in dynamics and disorder.
* it disrupts the barrier between two spaces.
* it is a highly dynamical process, opposite to the statics of a closed door.

this dynamics is incorporated in the handle design, while the handle still keeps a statical, simple, reduced and un-intrusive form when not being used.

the name of the handle comes from a croatian word for "breakage" - "lom".

production process:
the handle is constructed out of three parts (as shown in the technical drawing).
the two visible parts should be made out of casted aluminium with a satin or brushed finish, and the third part could be done out of a cheaper metal to reduce production costs. The handle requires screws in its construction -for connecting parts and attaching it to the door.
