designer's own words:
LIT door is a dialog on the trail of movement, usability in elegance, and the past in a not so distant future.
Hidden LEDs in the door light a ghosted map of past ‘panels’ when it loses contact with the latch. LIT stays lit for a timed period of 20 or so seconds.
Have time to locate the light switch. Find the bed without waking him/her up. Oh…somebody just went in there.
LIT is composed of satin finished semi-translucent plastic veneers with subtle hints of the ‘panel’ outlines in a gloss finish of the same. Hidden LEDs within the door cavity light the outlines for a timed period when an electrical circuit is broken from latch to door. Rechargeable batteries are also stored within the cavity to run the LEDs in-between contacts. LIT could be manufactured with traditional door techniques with optional translucent veneer materials and necessary electrical inserts. For example, a warmer feel could be achieved with translucent wood veneers.
