Lightfall by zoslee from korea
designer's own words:
When people escape from their limitedly experienced routine life to a life of full experience, their life becomes creative, rich, and productive. So, I present a interactive LED mood lighting, called Lightfall which provides new experience to users.
Lightfall is an interactive lighting, suggesting the never possessed environment to user.
This new experience is not for futuristic life, but for present.
It creates some attractive situations on a new physical system supposition that 'when the light has mass'.
This has important value that almost people usually limit at new experience not for current life before trying it.
People generally feel "mass" as most common in nature.
So, I design Light's incorporeity to corporeity.
Finally, user can anticipate the following movement of light as a containing mass thing.
Basic application of Lightfall is water droplets flow effects on the tilt rod. User can control the slope of aluminum rods easily, then the light-mass, as if such water droplets is the case, accordingly come down slipped with a acceleration. It can be added the various viscosity, elasticity, color, and afterimage effect, etc.
There are some challenges in the process of design can be divided into four.
(1) Aesthetics : several form study by manipulable prototyping by wood and acrylic and 3D printing
(2) Mechanical engineering : bracket part for stopping the spin of lighting part
(3) Electronics wiring : for realizing, setting is essentially required among LED strip, acceleration sensor, physical computing(Arduino), LED controller(Fadecandy), and laptop.
(4) Computer calculating coding
User has a new experience when he(she) feels that the light has mass.
User can control the slope of rods, then the light-mass, as if such water droplets is the case, accordingly come down slipped with a acceleration.
Aesthetic view: user can feel tension from narrow joint between lighting and bracket
For mass production considered structure
Solve some challenges about mechanical and electronic engineering issues
Manipulable prototyping by wood and acrylic by traditional prototyping tools and NC machine.
