KUNIA

KUNIA by luciana laura feo mourelle from argentina

designer's own words:

when I started thinking in the contest, the first thought that jumped into my mind was: how could i really innovate in a product that has kept such strong rules (from a morphological point of view) for long period of time, and i quickly decided to identify each one of this unspoken rules. i noticed that the lever as such was always in one piece...then i realized that every lever handle starts at the rose in a significant smaller section, that leaves the screws at sight, in almost every case. I also noticed that the cotter pin that holds the lever in position, often falls off, and almost never is included in the design, instead, the cotter pin is always an interruption in the forms.
Having said that, i tried to mixed up the visual preset concepts of the lever handle; first i separated the lever into two pieces, the base of the lever and the lever itself; then i unified the base of the lever with the rose...and finally, taking advantage of the fact that the lever could be installed at last, i repositioned an re designed the concept of the collet pin, and introduced it into one of the bases; so when you put the lever on, the collet pin will stay in position, and never fall off.

i maintained the same manufacturing process as a common lever handle, so the company doesn't have to acquired new technologies. each piece is cast into shape, mechanize and polish. when the pieces are ready it will be time for superficial treatments (as required- chromed or brushed).

the installation it's simple; you present the roses and screw them into position, then you insert the bases and screw them together and insert the cotter pin. finally you wedge the levers in.
