designer's own words:

Kiku is a piece of furniture that defies to be classified as a piece of mono-function furniture. Like the target user group, teenagers, Kiku defies to be labelled.

Studying the target user group, we have found that teenagers are highly energetic, goes through several mood swings as they grow up in the society trying to fit in to be 'little adults'. The main characteristic that we identify in teenagers is 'ever-changing' just like their emotional wants and needs, as they go through a hectic phase of 'growing up'.

Like the user group, teenagers, Kiku is designed to be 'ever-changing' with the target group. At one moment, the teen could use Kiku as a low table, sitting on the floor having his meals, just like in the Japanese lifestyle setting. At the next moment, after his mother nagged at him for the continual mess he accumulated in his room. The teenager decides to quickly tidy up the room, and use Kiku as a side table or a magazine rack to contain all the magazines found all over the room. In the next scenario, the teen brought his girlfriend home, and uses Kiku as a two-seater stool, so as to share some close moments with his special friend. By the end of the day, when the teen has been exhausted by school work and other activities, he goes to his couch, and uses Kiku as a 'leg-rest' stand and dozes off while watching TV.

Just like the user group, teenagers, who is undergoing a lot of change, Kiku adopts many different functions, a table, a magazine rack, a two-seater stool and at last a leg rest stand, just to adapt to the teens' ever-changing needs.
