KAKURO - CD SHELF
Simplicity in furniture design should at first be simplicity in producing, using and recycling.
This was the basic idea when creating KAKURO. The body of this CD shelf consists of only one piece of folded material (and, of course, some additional parts).
In case of the model it was cardboard and even with this fragile material the construction works. For mass production one should think of using something like titan sheet, but a type made of cardboard would be a very sexy option, too.
That would mean less production cost, easy-to-handle flatware, possibility of graphic decoration and last but not least a comparatively low price for the customer. After use the shelf could be easily recycled whereas the single components could be separately disposed.
This shelf is not for archiving huge amounts of CDs. It contains your 50 favourite CDs you maybe want to have near your bed or besides your sofa. (But, of course, you are also allowed to arrange more shelves side to side.) The look of KAKURO ist very stringent and reduced and arises from the dimensions of a standard CD case. Filled with CDs KAKURO nearly disppears and transforms to a unique sculpture.
