designer's own words:

Primarily moleskine is famous for its typical notebooks and sketchbooks. The idea of a book in which you can write down notions, thoughts, creative moments has its origins in the notebooks of famous european artists and writers of the 19th and 20th century. The plain and recognizable design of the small black books with its two rounded corners and its elastic strap became the brand mark of Moleskine.
The here shown idea for the logo of Moleskinerie should combine these two themes of the brand: the typical black moleskine-notebook and the creativity for what the brand stands for. The logo shows a reduced and plain-coloured illustration of the moleskine notebook with its specific features of the rounded corners and the elastic strap.
On the left hand side there is a pencil in the same reduced style of design. On the one hand this pencil stands for the use of the moleskine notebooks (which is to write or draw down something) and on the other hand it is a symbol of creativity.
Altogether the simple but memorable logo should represent what moleskine stands for and should be a recognizable and cathy piece of design.
