IVY SHELF FOR SWEDESE

IVY SHELF FOR SWEDESE by Thomas Bernstrand from sweden

designer's own words:

At Stockholm's Furniture Fair, Form's +1 Award was presented to this year's winner Thomas Bernstrand for his ”Ivy” shelving. +1 Award is an annual relay title where the winners of the previous year choose the recipient of the next award.

German design duo, Osko+Deichmann provided strong opinions in their search for this year's +1 Award winner with the motivation for behind their choice clear:

"Ivy is a smart and surprising piece. The fact that the shelves’ tilt is not just a visual joke but also a functional is a great bonus. It's this tilting which puts the expression of the form in the user's hands. It can be straight, conventional or crazy."

Thomas Bernstrand founded his studio, Bernstrand & Co. in 1999. Working across furniture design and interior landscaping, its output can be found across the design and architectural arena. Bernstrand himself has worked for several leading Nordic companies including Muuto, Nola, Horreds and Zero. Last year Bernstrand received the prestigious Bruno Mathsson prize, while in 2005 he claimed Furniture of the Year Award for the multi-functional table ”Uddabo”. ”Ivy” takes its place in Swedese's collection alongside another of his designs, ”Heaven”, an aluminium step ladder.

The rules for Form’s +1 Award are simple
The title's current holders choose from a selection of products which design will take the next prize. The rules ensures no two year's will have the same winning designer. Potential winners are all informed beforehand and the prize awarded at Stockholm's Furniture Fair.
