Ito Jakuchu Art Gallery by pule swai from tanzania
designer's own words:
the ito jakuchu gallery was inspired by the artist's beliefs and by his artwork. it is actually a journey that the artist would take before painting, a time for reflection and inspiration. the building puts the visitor in a different mood by forcing them upstairs across land and above water. the skylight is an introduction to air as another element outside the building. it is a gallery that constantly flirts with the exterior from the inside and stands out poetically for the people outside. the skylight roof is supported by two oblique steel beams that counterweight the two ends of the building. the beak also plays a structural role for the extending lobby. the facades would be made of wooden tiles for the wings and brass/copper plates for the neck and head. the chosen colors for the interior are basic and hint some of the colors used by the artist.
