"io Jupiter moon" lighting fixture by ira rozhavsky from israel
designer's own words:
“Io Jupiter moon” lighting fixture is made of broken tempered glass combined with a polymer, produced using a unique production method, which allows a creation of 3D glass forms without any usage of heat. When tempered glass breaks, beautiful patterns are created. Those patterns bring to mind a gentle lace, snow flakes or biological cells, while their beauty almost contradicts the act of the breaking.
Production of the lamp begins with a solid sheet of glass, that gets broken while a flexible material attached keeps all the fractures joined together. Every breaking creates a unique, one-time pattern, that is kept throughout the production process. The production combines modern industrial and hand-made processes, through which the material is shaped into beautifully unique organic structures.
Light refracts and dances on each fragment of broken glass, allowing the fixture's sensual form to radiate soft but mesmerizing light. The combination with an advance LED technology creates a full synergy between light and material. When not lit, ambient light reflects off the surface, highlighting the intricate detail yielded from the reformation of countless pieces of glass into a new material, in what appears to look like a “light mosaic”.
