Background:
Using different handles in home, at work and many public spaces especially at university we sometimes come about to think, some handles are not just designed for us, we have had to struggle with many handles, and the worst thing is when you are stuck with the same handle for a long time, cause handles don`t change regularly.
Now, if we do want some handles to fit us, not the other way around, and we are purchasing them mostly for a lifetime on our doors, shouldn`t we pay more attention in designing them? We said yes, and this competition gave us a door to enter this world, with our new handle: “Hippo Handle”
The mechanism is simple and efficient for a long lifetime, It assures the least effort to open the door by the one who pushes the handle. Large spiral surfaces on the moving section that are always in contact with the main shaft, which itself is connected to a spring from the other end, result in smooth movement of the handle and locker shaft.
Handle is made of cast aluminum, and there is a polishing needed after the casting. Main body is extruded and three other parts in the main body are casted, all from aluminum, which then will be forged into shape and should be subjected to final surfaces polishing.
The shaft is extruded and made out of stainless steel A316, cut and shaped by machining.
“Hippo Handle” is a simple, functioning and inclusive designed handle.
