Hasu Layer Puzzle by Joe Linden from uk
designer's own words:
The puzzle consists of 7 aluminium cages and 1 inner reward. The outermost layer took inspiration from modular origami structures, whilst the inner 6 aluminium layers are all spherical. Each layer contains only 1 hole large enough for the reward to pass through, so they must be lined up perfectly to receive it. This forces the user to work from the outside layer to the inside, gradually gaining more insight into what is contained within.
For this project I wanted to incorporate Lexus' philosophy of combining master craftsmanship and advanced technology, with curiosity in it's purest form. Inspiration came from a 200 year old puzzle ball hand carved from a single piece of ivory. I took this concept and built it into a puzzle which I hope will both provoke curiosity by providing just a glimpse of it's hidden treasures, and reward it by offering the user a tangible prize to take away.
I hope that the puzzle's construction will be able to raise a few eyebrows by itself. I intend for all 7 aluminium components to be manufactured within one other by utilising selective laser sintering technology.
