Hands on cork

Hands on cork by Mick Koopman from netherlands

designer's own words:

Cork. Cork is a sustainable-, versatile- ...and somewhat retro material. Cork can be used as a stopper for a wine bottle, as flooring material (varnished), as brick on the outside of a building (Portugal’s pavilion at Expo 2000) or as a non-slip handle on a conductors baton. The cork industry is generally regarded as environmentally friendly.

The handle is built up from 3 loose segments; the roset, the steel handle and the cork ‘sleeve’. The idea is that a person can choose form various colors of door handles within this model, to fit the interior of each room.
If someone get’s tired of one color, it’s easy to replace it without having to buy a completely new handle, by simply changing the cork sleeve.

The grip is ‘easy’ on the hands, easy to clean and replace and it may even be a safer door handle for small children in case they bump their head into it. The shape is mildly based on ergonomic bicycle steering bar handles.
