Getting a grip

Getting a grip by john nielsen from denmark

designer's own words:

This proposal for the colombo design hands on door handles competition tries to balance the precision of modern day manufacturing of cast and polished aluminium parts, with the ergonomic guidelines for good grip.

The designexpression derives from contrasts: The grip combines soft undulating surfaces with angular finished edges, while redesigning The rose introduces a play between the door handles moving and static volumes to achieve a new and contemporary way of expressing the function of the handle itself.

We believe that redesigning the rose can be done basically as shown without changing the parts assembly, and this way achieve an elegant solution to a basic design problem, leading to a new and contemporary design expression.

The proposal takes into account, various manufacturing and productionstandards to keep the production costs as low as possible to achieve a competitive product.

The doorhandle has been designed in compliance with the relevant building and safety standards.
