For The Rest by assaf israel from israel
designer's own words:
Nowadays there is a growing awareness for the importance of designing a comfortable and dynamic working environment, which will serve our changing needs throughout the day.
Business owners expect their employees to be productive and efficient. Many of them understand that by offering a resting zone for relaxation at the working space, they can increase the productivity and vitality of their workers. On the other hand, workers themselves expect their workplace to feel like a second home, where they convey a very large part of their time. This idea brought us to start developing an innovative product that will meet the requirements and expectations of both sides.
We decided to focus on a product that will spare the need for a certain resting zone inside an office and will take advantage of the existing elements which are already in use in the common open space office. We combined two important functions in one product: a partition screen that divides a space and gives privacy, and on the other hand can function as a platform for relaxation.
We took inspiration from situations where people take a short nap, usually when they rest upon a surface. By a simple operation of only two steps, 'For The Rest' becomes a platform to lay the head and upper body, allowing rest and disengage a slight respite from the bustle of the office. This product enables resting without getting up from the workstation and no allocation of a special rest area is needed.
The materials we chose were driven by the most modern office furniture:
The frame is made of a strong yet flexible polymeric material in mold injection technology, to keep the structure light and lean. The stretched net on this frame is flexible and ergonomic and allows a customized support structure for the shoulders. The central part, which serves as a pillow, is upholstered with a felt fabric that helps reducing noises. The base is made of a light metal structure.
'For The Rest' will shape a new era of working-culture, by putting the worker's welfare at the front.
