Parkour and Freerunning are steadily becoming popular activities amongst teens and young adults, in much the same way that skateboarding and blading did in the late 70’s. Like Skateboarding Parkour requires a lot of training before you can try anything big, or at height, and it can be dangerous if you try and push yourself too quickly.
Looking at the way that children play, making up games with nothing but their imaginations, I observed that a lot of the active games are great for teaching fundamentals of balance and hand-eye coordination. This inspired me to look at ways I could use imagination to disrupt the way we train, the problem is that many adults no longer know how to use their imagination.
Looking at virtual and augmented technology, I saw that in the near future it will be possible to use 3d tracking and transparent display technology to overlay computer generated layers to a person’s vision, allowing them to actually see the types of things that we imagined as children.
I looked at the design language of Oakley to inspire the aesthetics of the product, thick arms store display drivers and electronics and the rear cap stores the battery unit. The glasses use an elastic head band to keep them in place during extreme use.
