Essence of Balance by TvdL from netherlands
designer's own words:
The Obi is a bow wrapped around the kimono. It is an essential part of the kimono. A delicate and strong illustration of the rituals, habits and symbols in Japanese culture. This concept is a visualization of how tradition and functionality merge into a modern identity.
The bow becomes a bag to fulfill the needs of functionality nowadays. By analyzing the Obi and the Kimono about wearing and holding together it is important to balance the two items with soft materials and details to refine the contrasts and merge together into one. The bag is embracing with two arms the body and keeps it in balance with the objects token with you and the shape attached around the body. The objects inside play an important role of balance as they are carefully stored in the middle of the bag to keep the shape of a bow.
