The brief was to design an installation taking an emotion for inspiration.

I have designed a Lighting concept which can be used at different scales to create an intense visual experience.
The inspiration is Ecstasy - in all forms and scenarios. Be it the ecstasy of a designer when he finally finishes his product or the sexual ecstasy of young lovers. It is a moment of Hightened pleasure and intense happiness that isolates the one who experiences it from all surroundings and takes him in a world of his own.
Taking inspiration from it, i designed a Lighting that takes the form of a human face when viewed from different angles. But at one angle, which is viewing it from the front, dissolves the contours of the face and only a honeycomb like structure is visible. The visual is very intriguing and intense at this moment , similar to the moment of ecstasy. The viewer cannot see anything but a beautiful, engaging pattern of light.
Materials used -
Straws
Plywood for box
Light bulbs - Tungsten, White Cfl
Wire for lighting
Paint for box

Process
Make a box from the wood with a cut out for placing the straws
Arrange the straws inside the cut out bunched together tightly packed
Glueing and pushing the straws from inside the box to make the contour of a human face. Done simultaneously.
Finishing the product by arranging a light fixture inside and completing the paintjob.
