E∞S is the infinite light of the soul, the memorial to combine all in one in a symbolic connection of Earth with Sky, through the timeline of our lives. In the near future space for burial and traditional memorials will become scarcer. The 50.000.000 people that die every year will require new solutions for the burial, as ecological and convenient as possible (in place of every traditional grave can fit 4 E∞S memorials). The traditional burial is not efficient anymore, and for many families is a rather expensive procedure. Plus the idea of a cemetery will not comply with the deceased wish to be buried in a favorite or extraordinary location. From the other hand, the act of shattering ashes on the wind or in the sea, may cause negative reactions. A multiple solution to all these comes with E∞S, a new type of memorial for the future, that praises the past.
The underground part is a bio-degradable urn. The steel frame of the pole continues and the voids are filled with unbaked clay sides that will withstand the soil humidity for 30-40 days and then will gradually dilute with the ashes in the ground. To accelerate the procedure one can place water in the upper department of the urn that will dilute the separating walls of clay and then blend with the ashes. The upper part is a lighting pole with bespoke laser-engraved wooden topping (plywood or triplex) in the middle where the funerary will engrave with laser texts according to the relatives order. In contrary with the traditional stone memorials, with E∞S details about the life of the deceased can also be contained on the memorial, such as achievements or milestones of each person's life.
The top part contain the lighting, with a modified LED car lamp that can unleash a vertical ray of light up to 35-40 meters in the sky, resembling the soul pathway to heaven. The lamp is using energy from the rechargeable Li-Ion battery that is placed beneath the engravings. A battery will be provided to the relatives of the deceased to charge it before visiting the memorial and turn the light on for a duration of 6-8 hours. An option with photovoltaic panels on the South orientated side of the pole will be also available. This will secure the required amount of energy to light the lamp daily without changing batteries.
E∞S will be available in two sizes, the regular one of 3.30m height and the shorter one (for infants) of 1.95m height. Apart from the size, the (lamp) cap may differ as there will be options for all religions that comply with cremation.
E∞S memorial can be made of steel plate topping which will either be polished to maintain the matte-graphite color or will remain unpolished to rust gradually, integrating in a more natural way with the environment.
