Echo Shelf and Paper-plane by Vivek Prakash from india
designer's own words:
ECHO Shelf
ECHO speaks of conjunction, resembling the concept of how the community of living organisms in conjunction of nonliving organisms of their environment work as a system, ECHO is a conjunction itself where the three materials are responsible of each other’s function that is the wood members intersection into bent sheet modules and the bent rods intersecting with the wood members thus creating a replication of interdependence of an ecosystem. Each member provides its services on which each other member depend.
A collection of modular shelving, storage and display system, made from MS sheet metal, rod and teak wood.
Exploring design possibilities using the manufacturing inherited properties of sheet metal and wood in new ways. Omitting the need of any traditional fixings or adhesives for the structural integrity of the pieces.
The wood members hold the bent rods and the bent sheet modules which is achieved by pre-drilled holes in the wood members which are held between the protrusion and intrusion of the bent rods thus achieving unconventional way of re-imagining the furniture and an amalgam of fine design detailing which is quite intuitive and predictable in use.
PAPER-PLANE
“Paper-plane” is a pinch of lightness in its expression, generated from the idea of how it complements Echo and its functionality is moldable in its environment.
Paper-plane is made from punched M.S sheet or from full polypropylene plastic via injection molding technique.
A fine piece of simple accessory when kept unused, a magazine holder when on Coffee table and a book stand with the Echo shelf. Its functionality extends beyond the intended purpose.
