designer's own words:
Echo is an interactive installation that gently mimics approaching bodies by creating a glow of LEDs of varying intensities. The semitransparent wall is activated with the movement of the life around; a constant reminder of the important connection between culture, people, art and space.
Motion sensors detect distance of moving objects. The LED intensity (high, medium, low) is reflective of the subjects' proximity to the wall: the closer, the brighter. To create trails of light, the LED cycles back through each intensity level (high-med-low) over a period of 4 seconds.
The modular units may form small scale interior applications or compile together to create large scale installations.
The unit is 2-sided (one LED panel for each side) encouraging interaction between people on opposite sides.
All electrical elements are mounted on transparent panels creating a semitransparent unit. Visibility of the other side may be blurred, however active LEDs will indicate people’s presence.
The wall is dormant until activated by the presence of people. Ultimately, it is the motion and life of the community that lights the installation creating a cycle of energy, light and life.
