Du lär mig att bli fri

Du lär mig att bli fri by Hedvig Bergman from sweden

designer's own words:

In the project "Du lär mig att bli fri" I have drawn inspiration from the Geta. The design is partly based on an idea where I try to embody the layers of history that is to be found in the Geta, and in the Kimono-outfit as a whole. I want to highlight how fashion and clothing have reflected – or could reflect – the lives of women and men, personally and structurally, in I way I consider both poetic and political, oppressed and autonomously at the same time.

The soles of the shoes is like the Getas; made by wood and divided in two parts. Additionally the soles is divided into several sections, which carries 15 representations of artistry from the 20th century's feminist movements; miniature books, lyrics, speeches, such as “Egalias Döttrar” by the author Gert Brantenberg, “Sisters O Sisters” by the artist Yoko Ono, poems by the poet Edith Södergran, “The mad women at the attic" by the literature critics and authors Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar, among others.
