DOTORI by 1988 from
designer's own words:
Dotori is a desk and reading light designed on the lines of traditional Korean oil lamps by the two London based designers Massimo Aurelio Cappella and Hyunhee Hwang.
The image of LED light technology is often associate to modern products which can hardly fit in a traditional environment. Hi tech products are usually mass produced but Dotori lamp is entirely hand crafted using classic wood turning and finishing techniques. At the same time for the lighting system and the hearth of the lamp, Dotori uses the most recent wireless Led technology which can be controlled both with a dimmer placed on the lamp base and from any smartphone.
Cappella and Hwang have designed Dotori to create a product able to hold the poetry of a classic object created with hours of expert hand work wisely merged with the latest technologies available on the market.
The lamp body is a separate object by the base from which is hanging. This allows Dotori to be placed elsewhere in the room and still be remotely controlled both from the dimmer and smartphones.
