Doorknot not Doorknob by milan sipek from china
designer's own words:
doorknot doorknob for colombo design "hands on door-handles" by milan sipek
the knotted door-handle design boast sweeping forms and innovate shapes but the
underlying intension are more subtle. the handle seems to be knotted together out of
two metal strands and cut off at the ends, one end of which leads into the door. it's a familiar
shape in an unusual context, and its this familiarity where the design concept find its roots.
we associate a door with security, a means to protect our selves and our belongings and we have
all used knots in our lives to secure things together. Seeing a steel knot tied tightly
across the door should evoke a sense of safety and let you feel confident about the precious
things inside, or maybe the scary things, outside that door.
