The idea of the door handle and hardware is based on health safety device that protects occupants from any hazardous conditions in case of fires or dangerous levels of fumes. The smoke detector is located in the body of the door knob in the lower part. Besides this feature the size of the door knob hardware is enlarged to accommodate the signal screen which indicates when a door is locked, unlocked or when dangerous levels of carbon-monoxide and carbon-dioxide are present in a room. The door handle shape is designed ergonomically so it can be easily operated by any person, a child or an adult.
Door hardware consists of both electronic and mechanical parts. Locking and unlocking of the doors can be done both by the traditional method, by using a key, and by the electronic method, by pressing the pressure sensitive screen. Likewise in case of an emergency a door can be opened by pressing the touch-screen which simultaneously unlocks and opens a door.
Location of the door hardware is at 1128 millimeters (ISO) or 46” (the American Standard) which makes it an ideal location for the placement of the smoke detector. At that height the sensor can be adjusted to such sensitivity to detect the actual danger and the levels of carbon-monoxide or carbon-dioxide the room unlike ill-defined, and hard to install unattractive commercial detectors that are widely used in the North America and Europe. In addition door can be instantly unlocked by pushing the front touch-screen panel which makes it ideal for children to escape during hazardous conditions. In any event when there are dangerous levels of the toxic gases, the alarm is also set on.
