Dementia Friendly Banking
Over the upcoming years the number of people with dementia is going to double, as our regular healthcare systems are no longer able to provide the care they do today, people have rely on self help and social services. The bank could become an important player in this field.
In dementia people have memory troubles, and one of the first things that become lost is the ability to deal with complex things, like for example money.
The concept campaign, dementia friendly banking, combines a number of initiatives and designs to create a ‘dementia friendly bank’. These first of all banking related information and tips, very difficult to find for this group, spread via low-threshold media like Internet, letters and applications. Secondly additional services are provided like money delivery services, special consultancy service timeslots at the bank and the possibility to create a special account for people with dementia so nothing can go wrong with money. Finally, a new ATM, specifically designed for elderly with dementia enables them to stay independent much longer. These services help make dealing with money a pleasant experience for everybody, also for those with dementia.
