designer's own words:
This idea is based on the belief that there will be a general lack of intimacy between people in the home of the future. Both men and women are working longer hours, husbands and wives growing further apart as can be seen by the increase in the percentage of divorces. More people are living alone.
Our plan was to design something that would not only answer the brief of something to clean floors, but also help people to be more intimate with each other. Dancing has traditionally been an excellent way to interact with people, and by creating dancing shoes that can clean floors we hoped that people would be able to do both.
The insole would be made of rubber to prevent the wearers’ feet getting wet and the midsole would store the cleaning fluid. The outsole would be made of sponge and when dipped in water and with pressure from inside, such as someone wearing it, the fluid would be pushed through valves into the sponge. It would be ideal for smooth/tiled floors and one can glide around easily, and with a partner it would be even easier to clean and great fun too.
