introduction --
contemporary western man lives in a personalized society, in which everyone can decorate his or her world to the ever-changing personal taste. how does this influence our habitat, our house with its rooms, its doors and its door handles?

concept --
a door handle has always been a tool to enter or to leave other worlds, all with their own notions and desires. each space demands for different upholstery by its use; unfortunately it’s quite hard to accentuate the individuality of a space with the choice in contemporary door handles. we aim to change this, by introducing a distinguishable accessory that can adapt to its context.

we see the door handle as an indispensable part of our habitat, because it plays a major role in our daily life, our feeling and our interpretation of the rooms we live in.

shape --
our starting point is a minimal intervention in traditional door handles: an extruded 2d figurine forms the handle in our design. we aimed to find a fitting and surprising solution, whilst keeping the door handle’s traditional function and hygiene.

1:1 prototypes --
to be able to test the working and the proportions of our designs, we’ve rendered two examples via rapid prototyping.

materialisation --
we propose to produce our designs in stainless steel, nickel and brass; with a brushed, gold-plated or chrome-plated finish.
