Countdown by Joel Hayes from uk
designer's own words:
We are always wondering what the 'next big thing' is in our lives. We look forward to an event, our excitement builds and when the event happens our excitement reaches a peak, however afterwards our excitement disappears and we begin searching for another event to look forward to. Knowing something positive is about to occur in our lives makes us feel comfortable as we have time to prepare for the event as we wait for it to happen in anticipation.
My design allows users to store all the experiences they are looking forward to in one place. The design is made out of two components, a countdown timer and a companion app. The countdown timer is a small device with a screen that is to be placed somewhere it would be seen daily such as on a desk. Users add events they are excited about via an app and those events then appear as countdown timers on the device. The events are shown as incomplete circles which subtly progress towards completion as the event gets nearer. The user would notice a subtle change on each event circle daily, quietly reminding them that there are great events on the horizon and helping them feel positive about the direction their life is going in.
The countdown timer device works with the companion app.
Event circles are all unique colours. This helps the user to remember which circles represent different events that are going to occur in their lives.
The countdown timer displays a simple graphic which shows how many events are about to occur.
The app allows users to look back on what they were looking forward to in previous months. This helps the user to remember how many great experiences they have had in recent months.
The countdown timer features a pressure sensitive display. When pressed, brief descriptions of each event circle appear.
