corknob by joan torres from spain

designer's own words:

to carry out this project we focuse on cork, we like cork for its origin as well as for touch its sensations.
cork is soft and warm, mixed with zamak, cold and tough, will transmite a exchange of sensations at contact.
to place cork in context, we look for objects that have cork components.
champagne and wine bottles have a charachteristic component of cork, the cap. we start to work the bottle shape, we consider that bottleneck has an interesting pattern to replace a door handle and this is what we have done.
the handle remembers the forms of lambrusco bottles and the trim reminds the bottle cap.
the manufacture process are simply and well-know, the zamak is manufactured by injection holding and cork is processed by machinning.
we identify this handle with the tradition of producing lambrusco in the north of italy, this give to the product an italian identity, involving the product, italy and the origin of colombo design.
