contempo by cecily sumsion from usa

one of my industrial design professors at brigham young university challenged me to design a door handle for this competition, a challenge i was excited to accept. after researching, sketching, and building over 15 models and iterations, 'contempo' was born. i hand-sculpted the final model from a prototype-quality urethane foam, then surfaced the foam to the imitate brass 'contempo' will be produced in. this handle is simple, yet the form has a dynamic quality making it a perfect accent for any modern door.
