concertina fridge system by thomas grimer from uk
designer's own words:
The concertina fridge has been designed in response to changing lifestyles and new needs. As flexible living and working conditions are growing in importance, increasing pressure on living space and changing shopping habits, a new flexible approach to living must be found.
Commonly white goods are stationary units, bound to stagnant environments. This not only restricts the cooking and living system but ties one to a certain abode or way of life – flexibility and freedom are key elements in this scenario.
The concertina fridge is designed for change. With mobility on the agenda it has large wheels and handles ergonomically designed for single, mobile people. The cable extraction unit and rubber casing allow for easy and durable transportation. The digital user interface, although simple, has been included for a generation used to mobile phones and LCD interfaces. Styling has been employed to create a unit in its own right – suitable for any kitchen or space without trying to ‘match’ its surroundings. The exterior may be altered to ones own needs and taste with interchangeable door fascias offering a wide range of functions from cork boards to calculators. The double-walled concertina expansion area not only allows the fridge to cope with one to several people, but allows easy transportation and storage. The 25% extra space could be used for extra cool storage for parties, another person in your life or space restrictions – the fridge adapts to your lifestyle.
